The 16th annual JSE Spire Awards took place on Thursday, 19 October 2017 where Avior received three of the prestigious awards. The Spire Awards recognises excellence in South Africa’s fixed income, currency and commodity derivatives market.
Our awards include two 1st place awards for Best Agency Broker – Bonds as well as Best Research Team – Quantitative Research, and one 3rd place award for Best Agency Broker – Listed IR Derivatives.

About the JSE Spire Awards
The Awards are awarded based on trading volumes and votes are cast by clients.
“We value our clients and member firms and appreciate all the support and effort from our market participants as we continue to grow the fixed income, currency and commodity derivatives markets,” says Bernard Claassens, Manager: Fixed Income at the JSE.
Claassens comments that these awards continue to demonstrate the successes of the JSE’s clients and member firms and that they are testimony to the relentless effort and hard work that they have put in.
This year, from January to September, overall nominal bond market turnover totalled R20.293 trillion. The repo nominal turnover was R 14.31 trillion, while the standard nominal turnover was R5.6 trillion.
The JSE has seen significant growth in the Currency Derivative and Interest Rate Derivative Markets with the number of contracts traded up 33% in the Interest Rate derivative Market and up 19% in the Currency Derivative Market. “Despite a tough economic climate, market participants from brokers to researchers and sales teams have showcased hard work, resilience and innovation,” concludes Claassens.
